Besides calling up Josh Reddick to fill in for Mike Cameron, the Red Sox also promoted outfielder Darnell McDonald from Pawtucket and placed Jacoby Ellsbury on the disabled list with his sore ribs.
McDonald has been hot in Pawtucket, hitting .341. He had signed with Boston on a minor league contract in the off season. Boston moved him onto the 40-man roster Tuesday (the Red Sox had one open spot on the roster and did not have to make another move).
Here in Portland, Sea Dogs starter Ryne Miller was knocked out after three innings (5 H, 6 R, 4 BB, 5 K). Miller loaded the bases in the third inning with three walks and then Jose Coronado crushed a grand slam.
Binghamton leads 7-3 after five innings. Luis Exposito has a two-run double.
