With a win by the Red Sox (39-28) and losses for both Tampa Bay (41-24) and New York (41-24), the Red Sox are three games behind in the Al East standings. If the Red Sox were in any other division, they would be in first place.
Alex Wilson, the second round draft pick in 2009, did not fare well in his Double-A debut in Portland (3 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 2 BB, 4 K). But he showed some promise with a 95 m.p.h,. fastball and a biting slider. Just a little too amped up after a 10-day layoff ... Yamaico Navarro hit his fourth home run in the game.
Salem got production from the usual characters, led by Ryan Lavarnway (.312). he went 3-for-4 with his 14th home run ... Oscar Tejeda (.335) was 1-for-2 and Will Middlebrooks (.288) was 2-for-4.
