The Boston Red Sox are 12 games above .500 at 40-28, two games behind the Rays and Yankees (both at 41-25). Boston completed its sweep of Arizona Thursday night with an 8-5 win. David Ortiz had the big two-run homer, but did you notice Daniel Nava going 3-for-4 with a RBI? He's now batting .444 (8-for-18).
The Sea Dogs lost 5-1 as Erie's Brooks Brown threw a complete-game five-hitter.
In Pawtucket, Dusty Brown (.230) singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 11th ... Josh Reddick (.221) was 3-for-4.
The Red Sox signed journeyman first baseman Ryan Shealy, 30, to a minor league contract and sent him to Pawtucket (Maybe Boston wants some first base depth if Mike Lowell gets moved).
Salem second baseman Oscar Tejeda (.337) went 2-for-4 ... Brock Huntzinger (2.83) pitched 7 innings (4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K).
