Lots of focus on the mound tonight, with Felix Doubront making his major league debut at Fenway Park tonight (and, yes, his jersey is on display at Hadlock Field, with the other former Sea Dogs now in Boston).
At Hadlock Field, Casey Kelly pitches for the Sea Dogs vs. Nick Hagadone and the Akron Aeros. Hagadone, a first/sandwich round pick (55th overall) of the Red Sox in 2007, is making his four start in Double-A.
Hagadone, traded to Cleveland last year in the Victor Martinez deal, began the year in advanced Class A (10 starts, 2.39 ERA) and has a 4.26 ERA with Akron. The Indians are being careful with Hagadone, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2008, limiting his outings to four outings or fewer.
Last week in Akron, Hagadone pitched 3 2/3 innings against the Sea Dogs, allowing 3 H, 3 R and 6 BB, with no strikeouts.
Kelly, 1-3, 4.28, is coming off two straight solid outings (11 IP, 1 ER).
In other Red Sox/Sea Dogs news, lefty Dustin Richardson is still in the majors. There was speculation that Richardson would go back to the minors to make room for Doubront on the roster. Instead, Boston designated Boof Bonser for assignment.
Here are tonight's lineups:
BOSTON: Scutaro SS; Pedroia 2B; Ortiz DH; Youkilis 1B; Drew RF; Beltre 3B; Varitek C; Cameron CF; Nava LF; (Doubront P)
SEA DOGS: Spears SS; Lin CF; Chang 3B; Exposito C; Rizzo 1B; Khoury 2B; Chiang LF; Apodaca DH; Sheely RF; (Kelly P)
I'll be back with an update.
