Not a good night for the top Red Sox pitching prospect. Casey Kelly left in the fourth inning after giving up five runs on nine hits and three walks. He did strike out five.
Kelly was falling behind hitters and appeared to be leaving too many pitches over the plate. Kelly threw 84 pitches, 49 for strikes.
His counterpart, Akron Aeros starter Nick Hagadone, a former Red Sox first-round draft pick, also left in the fourth inning. Hagadone exited after 80 pitches (44 strikes). His line: 3 1/3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 BB, 2 K.
The score is tied 5-5 after four innings.
