The Portland Sea Dogs got to major league pitcher Jason Marquis for two runs in the first inning Friday night at Hadlock Field.
Marquis is on a rehab assignment for the Nationals' Double-A affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators.
Portland pounced quickly with the first four Sea Dogs reaching base. Yamaico Navarro grounded a single to left. Nate Spears lined a single to center. Ray Chang walked. Luis Exposito grounded a two-run single to left.
Anthony Rizzo crushed a fly ball to left center that was caught against the wall. Ryan Lavarnway lined out to third. Jorge Padron struck out swinging.
Marquis threw 29 pitches, 17 for strikes. Marquis is recovering from surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow. He is expected to be on a pitch count around 60.
Portland leads 2-0. Sea Dogs starter Stephen FIfe pitched a 1-2-3 first.
