AUGUSTA — Republican Gov. Paul LePage and Barclays officials announced Tuesday that the company is expanding its credit card business operations in the state, a move expected to bring 100 new jobs to the state by the end of the year.
The Delaware-based financial services company is expanding the Barclaycard customer contact facility in Wilton. Officials said they expect to have 250 total employees at the facility by the end of the year and then add another 100 jobs by the end of next year.
LePage praised Barclaycard’s decision to beef up its business in western Maine.
“The company is a solid, reputable and dynamic part of the Maine economy, and we look forward to watching them continue to grow in our state,” LePage said Tuesday in a statement.
Employees at the customer contact center provide customer support for Barclays’ credit card holders. The jobs are full time and include benefits such as health and dental insurance and vision coverage, officials said. The company is looking to fill these positions immediately.
