"Writing the Narrative for your Business Plan," 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday;

"Major Gifts: Hors d'oeuvres, Wine and Money!" 9 a.m. to noon, offered by Maine Association of Nonprofits with training on the pros and cons of major and planned gifts and fundraising. Mexico breakfast briefing, 8 to 9:30 a.m. presented by Maine International Trade Center and featuring Mexico's Consul General in Boston Daniel Hernandez, Portland legal expert on Mexico Sal Savatteri and representatives from the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce and ProMexico in preparation for a state trade mission o Mexico and Colombia Oct. 27 to Nov. 2. The registration deadline is Sept. 7. The briefing will be held at the MITC office, 511 Congress St., Portland.

First-Time homebuyer seminar will be held Sept. 7 and 14 at Money Management International, South Portland. Pre-registration is required and the non-refundable fee is $30 per person or $50 per couple. The deadline to register is Aug. 30.

Junior Achievement of Maine is seeking volunteers for this year's programs, which are offered to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Each year, more than 330 business professionals, parents and retirees help students learn about work readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Volunteers are shown how to utilize the user-friendly materials and work with students. Those interested in volunteering for JA of Maine should call 347-4333 or visit www.jamaine.org.
