Goodwill Industries of Northern New England is working to establish community sites to offer assistance to people seeking employment.
The organization is partnering with Spectrum Generations in Topsham and Damariscotta, the Christ Episcopal Church Seeds of Hope Neighborhood Center in Biddeford, and the Crooked River Adult and Community Education Center in Casco to establish community-based Workforce Solutions Sites.
An additional six sites are slated to open during the next two years in Maine's six coastal counties.
Workforce Solution Sites will offer tools for the unemployed, including resources for jobs, writing resumes and placing phone calls. Further assistance may be available through Workforce Investment Act funding for qualifying individuals.
The new community sites are designed to make employment services more accessible to residents of coastal Maine, as well as flexible to fit the needs of local community members, project developer Monica Driscoll said.
"Though each site will be different, staff will be trained on how to navigate the Maine Workforce Solutions Career Center System and how to best help people looking for work," she said.
Computer literacy classes will be offered at McArthur Library in Biddeford and there will be opportunities to enroll in adult education courses at Crooked River in Casco.
Goodwill Industries of Northern New England is looking for established community organizations as partners for the six additional sites. For more information, e-mail Driscoll at monica.driscoll@goodwillnne.org.
