NEW FACES

Christopher Kitchens, D.O., joined the medical staff at Central Maine Medical Center. He is practicing with Family Health Care Associates in Auburn.

Kitchens completed his residency training at the Central Maine Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Lewiston.

Peter Rothschild, of Islesboro and New York City, was named chief investment officer at the Maine Community Foundation.

Rothschild has chaired the investment committees of several educational and charitable institutions over the last 30 years, including the University of Oregon endowment and the Maine Community Foundation’s investment program.

Elizabeth Hilpman, a partner at Barlow Partners, will replace Rothschild as chair of Maine Community Foundation’s investment committee.

Bill Batty Jr. joined Rockbound Computers of Rockland as a customer service manager.

Batty had served as the customer manager and public relations and marketing director for Midcoast Internet Solutions for the past 12 years.

Matthew LaFlamme was hired as a commercial lines placement specialist at Willis of Northern New England Inc.

LaFlamme began his insurance career in 2010. He has experience underwriting lawyers’ professional liability and medical professional liability.

Westbrook native Chris Chapman accepted a new position within USI Insurance Services LLC as vice president of voluntary benefits.

Jason Favreau was promoted to principal in BerryDunn’s Tax Consulting and Compliance Group. Favreau works primarily with clients in the long-term care, real estate development, hospitality and manufacturing industries.

Tammy Brunetti was promoted to principal in the firm’s Health Care and Not-for-Profit Group. Brunetti has more than 17 years of experience in audit, accounting, third-party reimbursement, and general consulting services.

Connie Ouellette was promoted to lead BerryDunn’s Hospital Practice Group.

Ouellette joined BerryDunn in 1991. Her new position went into effect on July 1.

Alison Herrick was promoted to client service director of the certified public accounting firm Macpage LLC.

She joined Macpage in 2000 and became a certified public accountant in 2003.

Warren Berger was promoted to president and chief compliance officer at Salem Advisory Group LLC.

Berger is a chartered life underwriter and chartered financial consultant with over 30 years of industry experience. He lives in Scarborough and is the immediate past president of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Associates for Southern Maine.

AWARDS

Portland Housing Authority was recognized with Preble Street’s Community Partner Award.

Jennie Soares, Preble Street’s resource center supervisor, was recognized with its Joseph D. Kreisler Community Impact Award.

Also recognized was Bob Harradon of Yarmouth, a longtime volunteer at Preble Street Soup Kitchens, who received the volunteer of the year award.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS

Preble Street elected a new slate of officers.

Renee Schwalberg, practice area deputy for policy, planning and evaluation at the Altarum Institute, was named president. Herb Janick, a partner with Sidley Austin LLP, was named vice-president. Terry Sutton, a senior vice president of business transformation at L.L. Bean, was elected secretary; and Charlie Roscoe, retired managing partner at Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker, Certified Public Accountants, was elected treasurer.

The Rev. Ben Shambaugh, dean of St. Luke’s Cathedral, was recognized as Board Member of the Year for leadership and commitment to Preble Street’s mission. Maurice “Cito” Selinger, a partner at Curtis Thaxter, was honored as he stepped down from a three-year tenure as board president.

Bill Knowles, an attorney with Verrill Dana, was elected a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Knowles, chair of the board of directors of Pine Tree Legal Assistance, has had general civil trial practice for 30 years. He has tried over 50 cases, representing both plaintiffs and defendants, in state and federal courts.

Currently, there are 30 trial lawyers in Maine in this invitation-only organization, including Verrill Dana attorney Martha Gaythwaite.

Staci Coomer, executive director of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, was appointed president of the Midcoast Chamber Council for the 2014 fiscal year.

The council is led by directors of the individual chambers of commerce and works on projects related to promoting the region, lending power and breadth to each individual effort.

ACCREDITATION

Mercy Hospital was awarded a three-year term of accreditation in nuclear medicine as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology.

The Nuclear Medicine Department at Mercy joins the departments of CT scanning, ultrasound, MRI and mammography that have all previously attained the ACR’s three-year, Gold Seal of Accreditation for clinical excellence.
