James O’Brien has joined Norton Insurance & Financial Services as an account executive. He has more than six years experience in the insurance industry, previously working for Healey & Associates.

Dennis Norton has become affiliated with the Rockland office of Jaret & Cohn Real Estate. He will maintain his CPA firm, Norton and Masters Certified Public Accountants, and work primarily with businesses and commercial transactions.

Dr. Louis Russo has been appointed to the Central Maine Medical Center medical staff, practicing in association with Central Maine Cardiovascular Surgery. He formerly practiced with Maine Heart Surgical Associates and is the former director of the Ventricular Assist Device Program at Maine Medical Center.

Christine Jenkinson has been named chief operating officer of Preservation Management, Inc. She most recently served as the vice president of asset management for The Wishcamper Cos., Inc.

Daniel Fuller has been named the new director of the Institute of Contemporary Art at the Maine College of Art. He comes to the position having recently served as senior program specialist for the Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative.

Michael Anderson has joined Rinck Advertising as digital developer. He has a strong background in website development, with experience in Open-Source Content Management Systems, Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP.

PROMOTIONS

Kerri Willette has been promoted to human resources generalist at Norton Insurance & Financial Services. She has more than 17 years experience in human resources.

Tonya Beckwith has been promoted to store manager of TD Bank’s branch in North Windham. She has been with the bank since 2002, serving as an assistant store manager, head teller, customer service representative and teller.

AWARDS and RECOGNITION

Julie Mallett, an attorney for Legal Services for the Elderly, was honored with the 25th annual Downing Award. For the past 10 years, she has served a four-county area and aided more than 2,500 seniors.

Mary MacMahon was presented the Board Member of the Year Award from The Home Care & Hospice Alliance of Maine. The award recognizes her involvement with the agency’s Hospice House capital campaign and continued leadership through the philanthropy program.

United Way of York County was honored as 2010 Nonprofit of the Year by the Kennebunk-Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce. During its 24 years in York County, United Way has supported a variety of nonprofit organizations through its financial investments in the community.

Dr. David Adams will receive the 2010 Harry Bliss Activist Award for his work with Physicians for Social Responsibility in Maine.

School Administrative District 22 Superintendent Richard Lyons received the 2010 School Health Leadership award from the American School Health Association.

Cheryl Bascomb, marketing director at Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker, is a contributing author to “Bull’s-Eye! The Ultimate How-To Marketing & Sales Guide for CPAs.”

Rep. Mike Thibodeau, R-Winterport, received the Associated Builders and Contractors of Maine’s Legislator of the Year Award, recognizing his dedication to public service, commitment to free enterprise ideals and contributions to the legislative policy objectives of the construction industry.

Margaret Ross was presented the inaugural Margaret Ross Award for outstanding community service. As a SeniorsPlus Board of Directors member, she’s been a Seniors-Plus volunteer for nine years.

Joy Symon Fall of Kennebunk Savings Bank was selected to participate in the 2010-2011 Sigma Class of Leadership Maine for her concern for the future economic health and quality of life of Maine.

GENERAL

Kathleen Bolduc has been elected to the board of trustees of First Radio Parish Church of America/Daily Devotions.

Elaine Tomaszewski, superintendent of the Wells-Ogunquit Community School District, has been selected as one of 14 educational leaders nationwide to serve on the School Superintendent National Advisory Committee.

The following were elected to the Shalom House Inc. board of directors: William Keefer of the Sanford Housing Authority, David O’Connell of Benchmark, Marianne Stover of Harborview Investments, Thomas Trenholm of Drummond Woodsum and Jay Waterman of Fore Solutions. Mark Adelson was elected president of the board, Kitty Purrington was elected vice president, Susan Lichtman was elected secretary and William Saufley was elected treasurer.

Sarah Coburn was elected to the board of directors of the conservation organization Friends of Casco Bay/Casco Baykeeper. She is an attorney in the private clients and fiduciary services department with Verrill Dana, LLP.

Caroline Paras of the Greater Portland Council of Governments has been named the business development specialist working on behalf of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development’s Office of Business Development.
