NEW FACES

Mark G. Bloom joined Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences as director of corporate alliances and technology transfer. Bloom, an intellectual property attorney, has been involved in the creation of 19 high-technology companies and has represented the United States on the Business and Industry Advisory Committee of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Catherine Wilson joined OceanView at Falmouth as the on-site personal trainer, fitness class instructor, program coordinator and activities assistant. Wilson has 18 years of fitness and wellness experience.

Elaine DuMais joined Falmouth House at OceanView as an assisted living sales associate. DuMais was previously the community relations coordinator at Cadigan Lodge at The Highlands, OceanView’s sister community in Topsham.

Dr. Peter Shaw joined Martin’s Point Health Care as a cardiologist. Shaw has practiced cardiology in Portland for more than 30 years. He is also on the clinical staff of Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital and is active in the internal medicine and cardiology teaching programs at MMC.

Sarah Speare joined the Institute for Humane Education as its executive director. Speare, of Falmouth, has experience as a nonprofit executive, entrepreneur and designer for social change. She was previously a consultant to the nonprofit Art At Work/Terra Moto in Portland.

Randy Runnels joined Encompass Marketing as a senior Web developer. Runnels has several years of experience in the industry and a background as an advanced Web programmer, developer and designer. He will be responsible for integrating the company’s website design and functionality with social media and overall marketing efforts.

PROMOTIONS

Kate Baum was promoted to sales assistant at OceanView at Falmouth. She has been with SeaCoast Management since 2008, most recently as activities assistant at OceanView and previously at Highland Green as a marketing assistant.

Jeff Brown was promoted to area sales manager at U.S. Cellular and will lead the sales teams at its nine stores in southern Maine. Brown, of Gray, started his career with U.S. Cellular in 2005 and recently served as its service manager for New England.

David Murphy was promoted to vice president at Tighe & Bond. Murphy, of Springvale, joined Tighe & Bond in 2007 and most recently was a senior project manager at the firm. His 25 years of project management experience includes major design and construction, post-disaster reconstruction, and environmental programs.

William Schad of North Yarmouth was promoted to senior commercial loan officer in commercial lending at TD Bank. Schad has 20 years of experience in banking and lending. He joined TD Bank in 1997 and recently served as a commercial loan officer.

AWARDS and RECOGNITION

The Kennebec Lumber Co. in Solon was recognized by the Maine Wood Products Association with its Pine Tree Award. The company, owned by the Carrier family, operates a hardwood lumber sawmill in Solon, where it processes hardwood logs into kiln-dried lumber and flooring. The flooring program experienced an average growth of 35 percent in 2008 and 2009 and 45 percent growth in 2010.

Sharon Terry, Scarborough Downs’ president and owner, was recognized with the Sheridan Smith Distinguished Service Award. The award honors an individual or individuals who display exemplary service and dedication to the harness racing industry.

GENERAL

Thomas C. Chester, financial adviser at Allen Insurance and Financial, received the designation of Certified Financial Planner. Chester, of Lincolnville, was previously a financial adviser at Bancnorth Investment Planning’s local office.

Lester Wilkinson, an attorney with Bernstein Shur, was appointed to the board of trustees at Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook. Wilkinson, of Augusta, is a member of Bernstein Shur’s real estate and business law practice groups. He formerly served as board chair of Maine-General Health Associates and The Children’s Center and is a past president of the Maine State Bar Association.

Mathew Eddy and David Soley were elected to the board of the Maine Real Estate & Development Association. Eddy, of Brunswick, is executive director of Eaton Peabody Consulting Group. He has more than 20 years of experience in economic development and planning. Soley, of Freeport, is a co-founder and owner of East Brown Cow, a real estate investment, management and development company, which owns 22 commercial buildings and properties in Greater Portland.
