NEW FACES

• Mercy Hospital expanded its medical staff.

Benjamin Grasso, M.D., was hired as medical director of behavioral health.

Grasso will be responsible for clinical and administrative oversight for Mercy’s Recovery Center, Psychiatric Consulting Service and the New England Eating Disorders Program.

Most recently, he worked with the Veterans’ Administration.

Dr. Jason Frost joined the pulmonary and critical care team at Mercy Hospital.

Frost completed an internal medicine residency and osteopathic rotating internship at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Mass. He also completed a fellowship in critical care medicine through the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Rhode Island. During his fellowship, he traveled to Germany’s University of Tubingen to teach a critical care course to medical students attending the International Winter School.

David Thomson, M.D., joined MKM ENT, a department of Mercy Hospital.

Thomson is board certified in otolaryngology/head and surgery. He has been in private practice in southern Maine since 1990.

Joel Guarna, Ph.D. joined the staff at Mercy Hospital’s Pain Center.

Guarna is a clinical psychologist specializing in health psychology, wellness, addiction, trauma, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based psychotherapies. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Boston Consortium in clinical psychology and served as a staff psychologist for the Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in Boston.

• Elizabeth Gittinger, M.D., joined All About Women, a specialty practice within Mercy Health System of Maine.

Gittinger is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. Most recently, she worked at the Boston University School of Medicine.

All About Women is located at the Fore River Medical Building in Portland.

• Whit Mitchell and Jenna Grant joined Diversified Business Communications.

Mitchell was hired as a senior accountant and treasury analyst. Mitchell was previously employed with Baker Newman Noyes in Portland.

Grant joined the firm as a marketing coordinator. She previously worked at Mainebiz.

PROMOTIONS

• Shannon Trainor was named executive director of Crossroads, an agency that provides treatment for people struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues.

Trainor has served as clinical director since 2009 and has overseen all aspects of its outpatient and residential programs and services since then. She will assume her new position on Sept. 30.

Mary Anne Roy will take over the role as clinical director. Roy is a licensed psychologist and has served as a counselor and assistant clinical director since February 2010.

• Amy Kustra Barksdale, M.D., was promoted to medical director of Portland Community Health Center.

Barksdale is a board-certified family doctor with a special interest in international health, integrative medicine, and holistic and naturopathic medicine.

• Harry Nelson was promoted to vice president, aquatic markets at Fluid Imaging Technologies.

Most recently, he served as director of aquatic sales and marketing. He spearheaded the growth of the company’s FlowCAM particle imaging and analysis system in marine research, water quality analysis and other aquatic markets while recording annual sales growth of more than 35 percent for eight consecutive years.
