This map shows how Maine towns voted in the 2012 referendum that legalized same-sex marriage. Opposition to the referendum was concentrated in central and northern Maine, which is part of the 2nd Congressional District. That could pose problems for 2nd District U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, who announced that he is gay last fall and will need support in the district in the three-way race for Maine governor.
