Annual Postal Service food drive is Saturday

The U.S. Postal Service will join forces with the National Association of Letter Carriers, Harvesters Community Food Network, Price Chopper and Campbell’s Soup for the annual Stamp Out Hunger across America on Saturday.

Residents can place a sturdy bag containing non-perishable food items (no glass containers) at their home mailbox for pickup by their letter carrier.

MOFGA class on poultry processing

Learn how to process poultry in a workshop lead by Diane Schivera, MOFGA organic livestock specialist, as well as other poultry-processing professionals at 9 a.m. June 19. The three-hour workshop will be held at MOFGA’s Common Kitchen at the Common Ground Education Center.

Participants will learn how to turn live birds into oven-ready roasters through a safe and humane process. The workshop will also cover poultry management, equipment and food-safety concerns.

Bring your favorite kitchen knife, an apron and a willingness to learn. Each participant will take home a bird.

The cost is $30, and is limited to 20 participants.

Wellness workshop set for May 15 at co-op

The Portland Food Co-op is hosting a “Spring Into Well-Being” workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. May 15.

The workshop will feature a talk on a spring-weekend body detox with Sarah Kotzur, a doctor of naturopathic medicine, as well as information on planning and growing cleansing foods for your garden with local experts Wynne Wirth and Lisa Fernandez.

May 15 tasting at Old Port Wine Merchants

Old Port Wine Merchants will be hosting a tasting of wines of Austria from 4 to 7:30 p.m. May 15.

Austria has a long history of winemaking, and is most known for the sweet wines produced around Lake Neusiedl. Many are still produced today, as well as many other notable wines.
