Apple Pumpkin Festival, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Livermore Falls Recreation Fields, 1 Foundry Road. Apple and pumpkin pie contests, vendors, crafts, agricultural products, historical and educational displays, seasonal decorations, antique tractors, raffles, food, live music and a road race. Monmouth Apple Fest, Monmouth Museum, 748 Main St. An Apple Pie Cafe, apple exhibits, barrel car rides, wagon rides and a Boy Scout lunch counter. The museum buildings will be open. Call 933-2287 for admission fee.

22nd Annual Cornish Apple Festival, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., rain or shine, center of Cornish village in Thompson Park, Route 2. An apple pie baking contest and auction, freshly pressed cider, apple products from local vendors, apple fritters, raffle of original artwork, and live entertainment including cloggers and a Mad Science show. 15th Annual Bluegrass Gathering at Apple Acres Farm, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., 363 Durgintown Road, South Hiram. Apple Acres Farms provides a lot of the products for the Cornish Apple Festival, and is located just three miles down the road. A chicken barbecue will be available at noon. $7; free for ages 16 and under. Rain date Oct. 1.

SEPT. 24, OCT. 1 AND OCT. 8

Apple Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village lawn, 707 Shaker Road (Route 26), New Gloucester. Each Saturday features free cider pressing with a hand press. Bring your own apples or buy some at the Shaker Store. There will be special events each Saturday. The annual New Gloucester Apple Pie Sale begins at 10 a.m. Sept. 24; to pre-order, call 926-4561.

Shaker Hill Apple Festival, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Shaker Village on Shaker Hill Road, Alfred. Activities include a juried arts and crafts fair, Shaker exhibits and demonstrations, book and yard sales, a silent auction, apple and pumpkin picking, wagon rides, horse-drawn carriage rides, antique car rides, a pig raffle, farm booths, pie sales, apple crisp and more. Downeast Heirloom Apple Week. Various events organized by the Downeast Food Heritage Collaborative, an initiative of College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Woodlawn Museum in Ellsworth and Healthy Acadia, whose goal is to do outreach, education and research on the Downeast region’s food traditions, local history and the future of the local food system. OCT. 23

Great Maine Apple Day, noon to 4 p.m., rain or shine at Common Ground Education Center, 294 Crosby Brook Road, Unity. See and taste rare and heirloom apples, shop, and attend educational workshops and talks on cooking with old-time apple recipes, wine and cider making, and organic tree care. Bring your own varieties, and apple experts will identify them for you. An apple pie contest is included. $4 ($2 for members of MOFGA and the Maine Pomological Society).
