Photographer's estate updates, improves website
The estate of Todd Webb announced a recent refurbishment of its website, toddwebbphotographs.com. The new site features images, extensive biographical text, exhibition data, collection information and a frequently updated news tab.
Currently, two touring exhibitions accent Webb's photographs. "Picturing New York: Photographs from The Museum of Modern Art" tours Europe with three venues, at the Irish Museum of Modern Art; La Casa Encendida, Madrid, Spain; and the Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto, Italy.
"Picturing New York" comprises 145 works from the photographic collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, covering the period from the 1880s to the present day. One of the centerpieces of the exhibition is Webb's iconic work, "6th Avenue Panel Between West 43rd and 44th Streets," which is also featured on the home page.
In addition, a stateside traveling exhibition, "Georgia O'Keeffe and the Faraway: Nature and Image," has been hosted by The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas, and will open this fall at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, N.M. It includes several of O'Keeffe's paintings as well as multiple photographs of her camping and sketching, many of them by Webb as he was one of her favorite companions on these trips.
A local exhibition at the Portland gallery, Zero Station, displayed photographs of the city in the 1970s, highlighting Webb's later work.
