DAMARISCOTTA — The Damariscotta Grill will host "Painting Maine II," a small exhibition of 11 paintings by eight female artists who paint on location using natural light. The exhibition opens June 27 and runs through Aug. 8. A reception will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. June 29.

Exhibiting artists include Joyce Greenfield, Betty Hesselton, Ellen Hutchinson, Barbara Klein, Sally Loughridge, Marlene Loznicka, Ann Sklar and Abbie Williams. Known as the Monhegan Painters, the original members of the group spent two weeks painting together on Monhegan Island for the past four summers. Last year, the group expanded and began to focus on Maine locations beyond the island.
The eight women come from different backgrounds and different parts of the country, and have had different life experiences. Their common thread is their love of Maine and the inspiration that they find in the Maine landscape.
Now in its sixth year, the Damariscotta River Grill's "Art at the Grill" series recognizes talented Maine artists. The next show it will host is "From France to Maine," showcasing 12 artists who paint locally and have traveled to France.
