From Staff Reports
Maine fiber artist Jill Vendituoli shows needlepoint tapestries through April 28 in a newly opened exhibition at Maine Fiberarts in Topsham. The exhibition, "The Art of the Needle," highlights the meticulously executed needlepoint tapestries of a dedicated Maine artist who has been making work for more than two decades.

Fiber artist Jill Vendituoli's self-portrait, "A Tapiter's Life," from "The Art of the Needle."
Vendituoli lives in West Newfield on Maine's western border in an 18th-century farmhouse that she calls Sunnyfield. Her themes have developed from her interest in stained glass, Medieval times and a reverence for trees, the environment and nature, said Christine Macchi, director of Maine Fiberarts.
Vendituoli will discuss her work from 2 to 5 p.m. March 4 at the Maine Fibertarts gallery, 13 Main St., Topsham. For information, call 721-0678 or visit mainefiberarts.org.
In her self-portrait, "A Tapiter's Life," the artist creates a collage of components of her life. "They are stitched in fragments, and only the dragonfly is a completed form. The dragonfly is a symbol of transformation, and my life and its work were forever and beautifully altered when I met my husband and started my new life at Sunnyfield," she wrote.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
