If you love Halloween and consider yourself the creative type, have we got a contest for you.
Grab some of your favorite Halloween candies and create a Maine-centric scene featuring your favorite people, places and things from around the state.
Kind of like a scary version of a gingerbread house, with a respectful nod to the Washington Post's wildly entertaining Peeps Diorama contest.
Maybe you'd like to construct Katahdin from candy corn, or paint a waterfront scene out of Tootsie Rolls and gummy bones. Or re-create your favorite Portland restaurant in a weird way -- maybe a political figure dressed as Dracula, slurping French onion soup at Petite Jacqueline, or a Bride of Frankenstein picking up an eyeball pie at Two Fat Cats? A Maine farm populated by Peeps chicks, bats, ghosts and pumpkins?
The only rule is that the subject(s) must relate to Maine in some way.
Send in a photo of your Halloween diorama to food writer Meredith Goad at mgoad@pressherald.com by Oct. 17, which is two weeks from today.We will choose the finalists, who will be required to drop off their completed diorama to the newspaper the following week for final judging.
The best entries -- winner, finalists and otherwise -- will be featured in our Oct. 31 food section.
