BAR MILLS

Historical society plans tasteful box lunch event

If you love old-fashioned box lunches, check out the July 27 annual fundraiser sponsored by the Buxton-Hollis Historical Society.

The event echoes the early 1900s tradition when women put together box lunches for two in specially decorated boxes, baskets or other containers and brought them to the local box lunch social to be auctioned.

The historical society event will begin promptly at noon in the Brewster Mansion Barn, 8 Brewster Place in Bar Mills (at the intersection of routes 202 and 112 at Tory Hill Corner). Parking will be available at Woodman Road and Route 112.

Guests are encouraged to come in period attire and provide a “gourmet description” of their lunch to enhance its value.

Bruce A. Buxton will be the auctioneer. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the new Buxton-Hollis Historical Society History Center.

RSVP to Beverly Atkinson at 929-6495 by July 20.
