Music and Nightlife: Bet on Iris Dement for soulful songs

IRIS DEMENT has a voice that can make you cry, in a good way. What she lacks in productivity -- her latest album, 2012's "Sing the Delta," is only her fifth in 20 years -- the 52-year-old singer-songwriter makes up in great songs that will tug at your heartstrings.

Art and Theater: 'Macbeth' meets his end in Newcastle

THIS IS the final weekend of Heartwood Theater's modern version of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" in a contemporary setting, with a young cast, a movie-like soundtrack, multiple projections and complex lighting.

Art and Theater: Harlow Gallery opens annual juried show

THE HARLOW GALLERY in Hallowell opens its 18th annual juried art exhibition, "Art2013," on Friday. The exhibition includes 60 works of art by 48 artists, selected from 334 works submitted by 123 artists.

WHEN: Opening reception, 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. On view through June 1.

CALLING ALL species, calling all species. It's the fourth annual All Species Parade in downtown Brunswick, for every kind of being. It's the same day as Brunswick's first ArtWalk of the season, so there will be plenty to see and do.
