Anyone who has ever been to, or even near, a college campus will tell you there's one sure way to get college students to show up to something: Throw a party.

COLLEGE NIGHT 2012
WHEN: 7 to 10 p.m. today
WHERE: Portland Museum of Art, 7 Congress Square
HOW MUCH: Free with valid student ID; $5 without
INFO: portlandmuseum.org
So the folks at the Portland Museum of Art are doing just that tonight at the museum's annual College Night.
There'll be a DJ, two bands, free pizza and munchies, soda and raffle prizes. Oh yeah, all the museum's art will be there too, and hopefully it will get some attention.
The event was started a few years ago as a way to get college students into the museum, and it works. Last year more than 400 students showed up, said Kristen Levesque, director of marketing for the museum.
Portland has an art college -- Maine College of Art -- and those students have probably found the PMA by now. But students studying other things may need a little incentive and a price break to bring them into an art museum.
The price break at this event is impressive. It's free if you have a student ID, and $5 if you don't. Regular admission is $10 for students with ID and $12 for adults.
The entertainment begins at 7 p.m. with tunes spun by DJ Ponyfarm. At 8 p.m., there'll be a performance by the band Boy Without God, led by Boston native Gabriel Birnbaum. At 9 p.m., the Portland indie-rock trio Milkman's Union will perform. There also will be art projects to participate in and a raffle for gift certificates from local restaurants, arts venues and stores.
Free food will be provided by Leonardo's Pizza, Flatbread Company, Amato's and more. Drinks will be provided by Capt'n Eli's Soda.
And the college students will be able to see the museum's current special exhibition, "Making Faces: Photographic Portraits of Actors and Artists." Plus all of the museum's galleries.
So if you're a college student, you might want to stop by the PMA tonight to see what this art museum thing is all about.
Because even a college student can't live on pizza and rock bands alone.
