HEAVY METAL band Sevendust will be joined by Lacuna Coil and Avatar for an 18-plus show at the Asylum. Turn it up to 11.

Art and Theater: A night to help 'Keep Me Warm'

BRADBURY MOUNTAIN ARTS presents performances by the physical theater and comedy duo Reiffer and Saccone and the band Chickpeas as part of the "Keep Me Warm" concert series in Pownal benefiting heating assistance. Paintings by Andrea van Voorst van Beest and black-and-white photographs of Portland by Jan Pieter van Voorst van Beest will be featured.

Et Cetera: Paint the town white at Bethel WinterFest

SATURDAY is the kickoff to three weekends of winter fun at the annual Bethel WinterFest. There'll be a sledding hill, snowshoeing, a snowman photo contest and a Snowcano (that's a volcano fashioned out of snow), which is scheduled to erupt at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 16.

Music and Nightlife: Where else but Big Easy?

IT’S MARDI GRAS time, and what better place to celebrate than at The Big Easy – the Old Port night spot, that is. The place’s Mardi Gras Costume Party features music by the Fat Tuesdays, which includes members of Model Airplane, Royal Hammer, Miss Fairchild and The Fogcutters. Plus, there will be appearances by Darien Brahms, Kenya Hall and others. It’s a veritable gumbo of local musicians.

Art and Theater: Explore 'Flat Earth' at Rose

AFTER A SUCCESSFUL RUN at a gallery in Madrid, Spain, the art exhibition "Esta Tierra Plana/This Flat Earth" is now open in Portland. It features works on paper by contemporary artists in Maine and Spain, all working from a flat-earth theme.

EATING unlimited dumplings will help kick-start the Chinese Laundry, a new dim sum pop-up restaurant scheduled to open Feb. 20. It's a tough job, but it's for a good cause, right?

Et Cetera: They call it puppy love at Planet Dog

TALK ABOUT a wet kiss. Planet Dog's Ninth Annual Valentine's Day Canine Cocktail Party, a fundraiser, will feature a dog-kissing contest and plenty of free treats, beer and wine. The longest, sloppiest dog-to-human kiss wins a package of Planet Dog's best-sellers valued at $75.
