Music and Nightlife: Kilpatrick Band for a cause at Port City

FRIDAY WILL BE a good time to see one of Portland's best bands, and for a good cause. The Pete Kilpatrick Band hosts the Second Annual Maine Striper Sessions, a concert to benefit Maine's Coastal Conservation Association. Also performing will be Maine singer-songwriter Ryan Wimbish.

Art and Theater: Music of the Afghan ancients

VOICES OF AFGHANISTAN will perform a concert of traditional music using ancient instruments as a culmination of a weeklong residency in Portland.

Dining and Drink: Bull Feeney's beats the St. Patty's rush

BEAT THE CROWDS on St. Patrick's Day by ordering corned beef and cabbage or steak and Guinness pie on Saturday. Bull Feeney's is offering several St. Patrick's specials a day early for folks who find the revelry on the 17th a bit too much to bear.

Et Cetera: Rocking the '80s for benefit of Fiddlehead

THE '80s WERE all about the arts, right? I mean, Spandau Ballet? So it makes sense that there's a benefit dance party this weekend for the Fiddlehead Center for the Arts, and the entertainment is by local '80s cover band Time Pilots. It's officially called Fiddlehead Scarborough's Second Annual Green Gala, and semi-formal attire is requested.

Music and Nightlife: Such a three-fer at the Big Easy!

THE BIG EASY is having a special Friday night on rock bands: Three for $5. Hear Clubber Lang, Heart Shaped Rock and The Townies for one Abe Lincoln.

Art and Theater: Kid stuff at Portland Museum of Art

IN OBSERVANCE OF National Youth Art Month, the Portland Museum of Art displays dozens of student artworks selected from K-12 classes throughout the state, ranging from pencil drawings and paper collages to sculpture and digital photography.

Dining and Drink: Super bowl idea to benefit Wayside Food

Et Cetera: A time and place where verse is valued

SHARE A POEM, it doesn't cost anything. That's the case at the free Poetry Evening at York Public Library. People are encouraged to bring a poem to share, either their own or one by someone else. At least one poem should relate to the theme for March, which is fairytales.
