“CAPTAIN PHILLIPS” (PG-13) (2:14) Stars Tom Hanks, Barkhad Abdi and Barkhad Abdirahman. Directed by Paul Greengrass. Based on the true story of Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the MV Maersk Alabama, the first U.S. cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years.

“CARRIE” (R) (1:40) Stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Gabriella Wilde and Portia Doubleday. Directed by Kimberly Peirce. A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

“CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2” (PG) (1:35) Animated, with the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Farris, Will Forte and Neil Patrick Harris. Directed by Dody Cameron and Kris Pearn. Flint Lockwood leaves his post at The Live Corp Company when he learns his most infamous machine is still working and turning out menacing food-animal hybrids.

“DON JON” (R) (1:30) Stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson and Tony Danza. Directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. A man works to find intimacy and happiness with his potential true love after developing unrealistic expectations from watching porn.

“ENOUGH SAID” (PG-13) (1:33) Stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, James Gandolfini and Catherine Keener. Directed by Nicole Holofcener. A divorced woman decides to pursue the man she’s interested in but learns he’s the ex-husband of her new friend.

“ESCAPE PLAN” (R) (1:55) Stars Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, 50 Cent and Vincent D’Onofrio. Directed by Mikael Hafstrom. A structural-security authority uses his skills to escape from incarceration in the world’s most secret and secure prison.

“THE FIFTH ESTATE” (R) (2:08) Stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Daniel Bruhl, Carice van Houten and Alicia Vikander. Directed by Bill Condon. A dramatic thriller based on real events that reveals the quest to expose the deceptions and corruptions of power that turned an Internet upstart into the 21st century’s most fiercely debated organization.

“GRAVITY” (PG-13) (1:30) Stars Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Ed Harris and Orto Ignatiussen. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron. A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.

“HALLOWEEN: 35TH ANNIVERSARY” (R) (1:31) Stars Donald Pleasence, Jamie Lee Curtis and Tony Moran. Directed by John Carpenter. A psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood for the murder of his sister, escapes and stalks a teenage girl and her friends while being chased by his doctor.

“INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2” (PG-13) (1:45) Stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey and Lin Shaye. Directed by James Wan. The haunted Lambert family tries to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.

“INSTRUCTIONS NOT INCLUDED” (R) (2:02) Stars Eugenio Derbez, Karla Souza and Jessica Lindsey. Directed by Eugenio Derbez. A man who has made a new life for himself and the daughter left on his doorstep six years ago finds his family threatened when the birth mother resurfaces.

“MACHETE KILLS” (R) (1:47) Stars Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega, Mel Gibson and Jessica Alba. Directed by Robert Rodriguez. The U.S. government recruits Machete to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space.

“PRISONERS” (R) (2:33) Stars Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis and Melissa Leo. Directed by Denis Villeneuve. While police pursue leads, Keller Dover takes matters into his own hands after his daughter and her friend go missing.

“RUSH” (R) (2:03) Stars Daniel Bruhl, Chris Hemsworth, Olivia Wilde and Natalie Dormer. Directed by Ron Howard. The 1970s intense rivalry between Formula One drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda is re-created in this sports drama based on actual events.

“SALINGER” (PG-13) (2:00) Stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton and Judd Apatow. Directed by Shane Salemo. Documentary with interviews of friends and colleagues of the very private author of “Catcher in the Rye.”

“WE’RE THE MILLERS” (R) (1:50) Stars Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts, Jason Sudeikis. Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. A veteran pot dealer creates a fake family as part of his plan to move a huge shipment of weed into the U.S. from Mexico.
