“MAIDENTRIP,” documentary, directed by Jillian Schlesinger, 2013.

This film, which won the Audience Award at the 2013 Camden International Film Festival, focuses on 14-year-old Laura Dekker and her extraordinarily brave attempt to become the youngest person ever to sail around the world alone.

Schlesigner created “Maidentrip” by editing footage that the fiercely independent Dekker shot – both of her surroundings and of herself, narrating to the camera – on her two-year voyage.

The film also tackles Dekker’s yearlong fight with Dutch authorities to get the opportunity for the trip.

Not rated (some profanity). 1:22. In Dutch and English with English subtitles.

Showing at: Portland Museum of Art, 2 p.m. Thursday; 2 and 6:30 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday
