“BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR” (NC-17) (2:59) Stars Léa Seydoux, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Salim Kechiouche. Directed by Abdellatif Kechiche. Originally “La Vie d’Adèle.” Adele’s life is changed when she meets Emma, a young woman with blue hair, who will allow her to discover desire, to assert herself as a woman and as an adult.

“12 YEARS A SLAVE” (R) (2:14) Stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael K. Williams, Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt. Directed by Steve McQueen.

Pre-Civil War in the United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery and struggles to stay alive. Based on a true story.

“MET OPERA: TOSCA” (NR) (3:35) Stars Patricia Racette, Roberto Alagna and George Gagnidze. Giacomo Puccini’s tale, set in Rome in 1860, features love, intrigue, betrayal, politics, bribery and an execution. Sung in Italian with subtitles.

“CAPTAIN PHILLIPS” (PG-13) (2:14) Stars Tom Hanks, Barkhad Abdi and Barkhad Abdirahman. Directed by Paul Greengrass. Based on the true story of Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the MV Maersk Alabama, the first U.S. cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years.

“CARRIE” (R) (1:40) Stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Gabriella Wilde and Portia Doubleday. Directed by Kimberly Peirce. A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

“CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2” (PG) (1:35) Animated, with the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Farris, Will Forte and Neil Patrick Harris. Directed by Dody Cameron and Kris Pearn. Flint Lockwood leaves his post at The Live Corp Company when he learns his most infamous machine is still working and turning out menacing food-animal hybrids.
