This week’s GO cover celebrates the musical union of husband-and-wife duo Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, who will be bringing their 11-piece band to Ocean Gateway for an outdoor concert Friday.

Having been a longtime fan of both artists’ solo work, I will avoid saying “it’s about time” and simply congratulate them on hitting a home run straight out of the park with their first CD together. If you get a chance, head on down to the waterfront and them check out; it’s sure to be quite the barn-raiser.

Tedeschi-Trucks follows in a rich tradition of husband-and-wife musical teams. Some of them are still going strong, while others were reminded of why spouses rarely work together and ended not only their musical partnership but their marital partnership as well.

Here are some of the best:

Johnny and June Carter Cash — With some Grammy-winning collaborations (“Jackson,” “If I Were a Carpenter”), a musical partnership that stood for more than 30 years and a love story that truly lasted “’til death do us part,” Johnny and June provided a fine example of how to do it right.

Ike and Tina Turner — We all know how this one turned out, but there’s no denying that Ike and Tina created some of the best soul records of the ’60s and ’70s, including “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine,” “Proud Mary” and “Nutbush City Limits.”

Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett — Delaney and Bonnie aren’t remembered by many today, but in the early ’70s, their rock/soul chops were impressive enough to earn a stable of rock-star collaborators that included Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Duane and Gregg Allman, Leon Russell, Dave Mason and King Curtis. (Little-known trivia: Bonnie later had a recurring role on “Roseanne” under the name Bonnie Sheridan.) If you don’t own “On Tour with Eric Clapton,” buy it now.

Richard and Linda Thompson — What do you get when you team one of the best male singer-songwriter/guitarists with one of the best female vocalists? Classics like their debut, “I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight,” and their last album together, the not-so-subtly titled “Shoot Out the Lights.”

The White Stripes — Although they never publicly admitted it, Jack and Meg White were united in matrimony when they formed one of the best rock bands of the past decade. Unlike most husband-and-wife duos, however, their biggest success came after the divorce. They broke up their musical partnership as well earlier this year, though now that Jack is recently divorced from wife No. 2, who knows?

Arcade Fire — Win Butler and wife Regine Chassagne are the cornerstone of this indie-rock band from Quebec, which formed in 2001 and reached worldwide success last year with the Grammy-winning album “The Suburbs.” Will success take them down the same road as Ike & Tina, Delaney & Bonnie, and Richard & Linda? If so, their next album may be called “The Short Sale.”
