PUT YOUR latte-making skills up against the pros at the Thursday Night Throwdown Latte Art Competition at Bard Coffee. It's just $5 to participate, and all the proceeds go to Coffee Kids, an organization that helps children in the world's coffee-growing regions.

BETTER GET THERE EARLY for the Third Annual Sake & Sushi Tasting tonight at Browne Trading Market. It's free and no reservations are required, so the event tends to fill up fast. Chef Seiji Ando from Benkay Japanese Restaurant will be preparing sushi on site, and Browne Trading staff will be introducing some new sakes.

WHEN: 5 to 7 tonight

WHERE: Browne Trading Market, 262 Commercial St., Portland

HOW MUCH: Free, but you'll probably end up taking home a couple bottles of sake, so bring the credit card.
