Summer’s here, and the time is right for festivals. Maine has a bumper crop from which to choose, and it can be somewhat overwhelming. We’ve compiled a list of 10 must-attend festivals to help you find your way through the weeds.

Feeling the need to wrestle in a vat of mashed potatoes? Want to try your hand at hurling heavy wooden poles through the air? In the mood for a whole lot of lobster and clams? Up for some serious yoga? Feel like some sandcastle building and a lighthouse lighting? Hungry for a pig roast? Ready for some windjammers? Shopping for the best in hipster crafts?

We’ve got you covered.

Use this list as a summer planner, and check back with GO every week to supplement your festival fare, because there truly is something going on between now and Labor Day to satisfy every entertainment need. They don’t call Maine Vacationland for nothing, you know.

MOXIE FESTIVAL

There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who love the taste of the soft drink Moxie and those who are horrified by it. The good news is that the annual Moxie Festival doesn’t require ingestion of the legendary liquid — unless, of course, you want to. Over the course of three days, you can partake of fireworks, a car show, the Spirit of the Wolf Pow-Wow, a parade, a river race, a concert by the ’80s cover band Twyce Shy and, yes, a Moxie Chugging Challenge.
