With the new year at hand, the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell winds up its regional year-long project and exhibition, “CSA: Community Supporting Arts.”
A year ago, the Harlow matched 14 artists with 13 CSA farms in and around central Maine. Through the 2012 growing season, artists visited farms and created art inspired by farmers’ lives, work, landscapes, challenges and ideals.

New art exhibitions in the series open Friday in Belfast at the Maine Farmland Trust Gallery and at UMaine’s Hutchinson Center; and on Jan. 11 at the Frontier in Brunswick.
The exhibitions in Belfast open simultaneously from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Maine Farmland Trust Gallery is at 97 Main St., and the University of Maine’s Hutchinson Center is at 80 Belmont Ave. Both shows will be on view through Feb. 27.
The exhibition in Brunswick opens with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Frontier at Fort Andross Mill, 14 Maine St. The exhibition at Frontier will be on view through Feb. 24.
The 14 participating artists are: Kate Barnes of Oakland, Susan Bickford of Newcastle, Aleana Chaplin and Matt Demers of Gardiner, Kim Christensen of Albion, Kerstin Engman of Liberty, Tyler Gulden of Walpole, Christine Higgins of Readfield, Kelsey Kobik and Emily Trenholm of Portland, Scott Minzy of Pittston, Maina Handmaker of Brunswick, Petrea Noyes of Lincolnville and Jamie Ribisi-Braley of Manchester.
The 13 CSA farms are: Annabessacook Farm and Wholesome Holmstead in Winthrop, Crescent Run Farm in Bremen, Dig Deep Farm and Goranson Farm in Dresden, Fresh Start Farms in Lisbon, Grassland Organic Farm in Skowhegan, Long Meadow Farm in West Gardiner, Milkweed Farm in Brunswick, Morning Dew Farm in Newcastle, SNAFU Acres Farm in Monmouth, Treble Ridge Farm in Whitefield and Winterberry Farm in Belgrade.
The “CSA: Community Supporting Arts” exhibition series began at the Harlow Gallery in October, followed by two exhibitions in November at Common Street Arts in Waterville and Sheepscot General in Whitefield. Two exhibitions in the series are still up — at Crosstrax Deli at 215 Depot St., Unity, through Jan. 26; and at Savory Maine Dining and Provisions, 11 Water St., Damariscotta, through Feb. 5.
The goal of the project is to promote and celebrate local art and food cultures.
