First Day Hikes

at state parks statewide

Maine State Parks, along with state parks nationwide, will celebrate First Day Hikes. Free, ranger-guided hikes will be held at five parks to welcome in the new year. The hikes will be at noon at Lily Bay State Park; 1:30 p.m. at Popham Beach State Park; 12:30 p.m. at Range Ponds State Park; 10:30 a.m. at Sebago Lake State Park; and 10 a.m. at Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park. SUNDAY

Nature programs

at 2 p.m. in Freeport

Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park offers nature programs on Sundays in January. Programs start at the circle of benches at the end of the second parking lot unless otherwise noted, and may include walks, talks and activities outdoors. Programs last about one hour, weather permitting. No reservations are needed except for groups Nature programs are free with park admission. The admission is $1 for ages 5-11; $3 for Maine residents ages 12-64; $4.50 for nonresidents ages 12-64; $1.50 for nonresidents 65 and older. Those under 5 and Maine residents 65 and older are free.
