Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park offers nature programs on Sundays in January. Programs start at the circle of benches at the end of the second parking lot unless otherwise noted, and may include walks, talks and activities outdoors. Programs last about one hour, weather permitting. No reservations are needed except for groups. Nature programs are free with park admission. The admission is $1 for ages 5-11; $3 for Maine residents ages 12-64; $4.50 for nonresidents ages 12-64; $1.50 for nonresidents 65 and older. Those under 5 and Maine residents 65 and older are free. Calling All Veterans
9 a.m. noon, New Gloucester
Veterans are invited to an adaptive-ski program at Pineland Farms every Wednesday. All veterans with physical disabilities, traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress syndrome are welcome to learn to cross country ski with fellow veterans. No experience is necessary. Ski instruction and equipment are provided free. Veterans also may volunteer to teach other veterans. Registration is required the Sunday before each session. The Portland Water District invites cross country skiers of all levels to come enjoy the trails on the Sebago Lake Land Reserve in Standish. Maps will be distributed for those traveling faster than the beginner and intermediate groups. The trails on the water district land are well maintained and over even terrain.
