Meet at the Boothbay Region Land Trust’s Penny Lake Preserve. Bring a compass or borrow one. Land trust officers will help with a quick lesson in how to follow coordinates through the preserve where you’ll be collecting pieces of a poem along the way. Hike in the Park

Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park offers nature programs year-round every weekend. Meet at the benches at the end of the second parking lot. No reservations needed. Free with park admission, which is $1 for ages 5 to 11 and $3 for ages 12 to 64. Call for updates, 865-4465.

Full Moon Walk

7:30 p.m. in Biddeford

Join the Eastern Trail Alliance on its monthly full-moon hikes. Gather at the rear of the Southern Maine Medical Center parking lot in Biddeford. Bring a headlamp but the group will try to navigate by moonlight in order to see nocturnal critters. Headwall Adventures

8 p.m., Pinkham Notch, N.H.

Come learn about the legends of skiing in New Hampshire at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center. The famous ski comedy “Dr. Quackenbush Skis the Headwall” was filmed in 1940 and follows Quackenbush to Cranmore, Wildcat and Tuckerman Ravine. Historic footage and a vintage musical score make this a family movie. Programs at the visitor center are free and open to the public. The AMC center is on Route 16. The L.C. Bates Museum at Good Will-Hinckley has a host of outdoor lessons for youth during school vacation week. On Saturday fossils will be examined in a discussion about dinosaurs and giant sharks. Adventure Race

May 11 in Danforth

East Grand High is again holding its adventure race, this year with $1,000 in prizes. Come compete in the 20-mile race through the wilderness of eastern Maine. The stages include an off-trail compass run, a 9-mile mountain bike course, a 7-mile canoe paddle, a climbing wall and additional field obstacles. Participants can race individually, in pairs or on teams. New this year is a 33-mile canoe/kayak race from the headwaters of the Baskahegan, which will run in conjunction with the adventure race.
