Pemaquid Paddlers / 9 a.m. in Waldoboro

This week's paddle by the wandering water travelers in the midcoast region is on the Medomak River. The put-in is at Waldoboro Town Landing, which can be reached on the western side of the river, across from downtown Waldoboro. Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak and wear a life jacket. All trips are free and open to the public. Paddle is held rain or shine. For more information, call John Will at 677-6380.

Mountain Tales / 8 p.m., Pinkham Notch, N.H.

The Appalachian Mountain Club's evening program series continues this week. Programs are free and open to the public. The AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center is located on Route 16. For more information, call 603-466-2727.

Georges River Quest / 10 a.m. in Thomaston

Georges River Land Trust will be holding its new quest for families in Thomaston on the Village Trail. The exercise is a self-guided interpretive walk highlighting the shorebirds that use the river. The quest was created by fourth-graders at the Lura Libby School. Meet at the north end of the Strong Agency parking lot on Main Street in Thomaston next to the town green. Call 594-5166.

Silent Spring Anniversary / 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Wells

Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its namesake's work, the famous conservation book "Silent Spring."
