The outdoors in Maine will be celebrated statewide at all state parks and historic sites with free admission on Fathers Day. All vehicles with a Maine license plate will be granted a free pass. For more information, go to www.parkslandlands.com.

TUESDAY

Pemaquid Paddlers

9 a.m. in Pemaquid

This week's paddle will be on Johns Bay or the West Branch of the Johns River. Put-in is at the Colonial Pemaquid boat launch. From Damariscotta Lake, take Route 130 about 11 miles and turn right onto Huddle Road. Follow it until it ends and turn right. Follow the signs to the boat launch site, past the fort. Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak and wear a life jacket. All trips are free. For more information, call John Will at 677-6380.

THURSDAY

Solstice Hike

5 p.m. in South Bridgton

The Loon Echo Land Trust is celebrating the summer solstice with a short hike up Bald Pate Mountain. The rocky summit affords views of surrounding lakes and hills. Come with an instrument, read a poem or express your love of nature in another way. Bring a snack for the summit. Hikers should meet at the Bald Pate parking lot in South Bridgton, just past Five Fields Farm on Route 107. The hike will be canceled if there are thunderstorms. SATURDAY

Birding Festival

6 a.m. to 1 p.m., Presque Isle

The Birding Festival at Aroostook State Park is geared toward those new to birding, with bird-calling workshops; a birdhouse building station for young birders, and canoes and kayaks for exploring the park's pond. Volunteers from the Arthur Howell Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Amity will be on hand from 9:30 a.m. with birds of prey. Admission to the park is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 5 to 11. Maine Guides meeting

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Gray

Learn why you would want to hire a Registered Maine Guide at a seminar at the Maine Wildlife Park. Park admission is $7 for ages 13 to 60; and $5 for those over 60 and younger than 13. To learn more, go to www.maineguides.org.
