Families cope with SMA – the leading cause of infant death
Spinal muscular atrophy type 1 is the leading cause of death for infants. One in 10,000 babies are born with the gene mutation that causes the disorder. The National Institutes of Health now lists it as the neurologic disease closest to a cure. Posted
