Man faces federal charge of interstate prostitution

A Portland man accused of transporting a minor and two adults from Portland to Boston last summer to prostitute them has been arrested on a federal charge.

Samuel Gravely, 27, was taken into custody Tuesday in Portland on a warrant issued Monday from U.S. District Court in Bangor on a charge of transportation in interstate commerce for prostitution.

An affidavit filed in Gravely’s case by Special Agent Anthony Castellanos of the Department of Homeland Security remained sealed, and few other details were immediately available.

A single-page criminal complaint accuses Gravely of transporting the minor and two adults to Boston on or about June 26 through June 29. U.S. District Chief Judge John A. Woodcock Jr. issued an order permitting the complaint to be made public.

The prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Gail Fisk Malone, has filed a motion to have Gravely detained, but no hearing date had been set for an initial appearance by Tuesday.

Four Mainers among five arrested in fracking protest

Five protesters, four of them locked to each other with steel pipes, have been arrested after refusing to leave the Irving Oil corporate building in Portsmouth, where police said they threw glitter and blew whistles.

According to a live blog of the protest Monday, the five women are members of a group called Trans and/or Women’s Action Camp, with a slogan, “Kicking patriarchy out of the woods,” the Portsmouth Herald said.

They said they were protesting fracking exploration on indigenous lands in Canada. Four are from Maine and one is from Texas.

Police said they were among 25 protesters who entered the building. The women locked to each other remained seated in a circle in the lobby. They were carried out and charged.

According to seacoast.com, Anne St. Amand, 26, of Portland was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and criminal mischief/vandalism.

Christine Baglieri, 26, of Belgrade, Sara Moscoso, 26, of Belmont and Christine Elizabeth Buchanan, 30, of Belgrade were all charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, criminal mischief/vandalism and resisting arrest.

Hospital sorry for sending wrong records to patient

A hospital is apologizing for sending a Woolwich man the wrong medical records, including another patient’s name, date of birth and Social Security number.

Don Adams said he asked Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for his records because he never received a bill for procedures received more than a year ago.

When he finally got the information in September, he noticed procedures he had never received. Then he realized he had received a woman’s records.

Sex offender arrested, jailed after reports of boys on lap

A man on the state’s sex offender registry has been charged with having prohibited contact with a minor after parents told police he was seen with children at a Fairfield athletic field.

Police said 49-year-old Timothy Hayes of Prentiss Plantation was seen with boys ages 6 and 8 on his lap.

The Morning Sentinel reported that Clinton police arrested Hayes on Saturday.

Parents initially contacted Clinton Police Chief Craig Johnson.

Hayes is being held in jail.
