Flying glass hurts woman when bullet hits television

A woman suffered minor injuries Sunday night when a bullet fired from outside her home went through a window and struck a television, police said. The shattered glass from the TV hit her in the face.

Brunswick police responded to the shooting at 37 McLellan St. just after 10 p.m. Officers determined that a bullet had been fired through a window, went through the TV and into an interior wall.

Four people were in the house at the time, including the 20-year-old woman, who was not identified.

A Freeport police K-9 unit assisted Brunswick officers in their search for the shooter. The investigation is continuing.

Old Town woman, son injured in vehicle rollover

An Old Town woman and her 3-year-old son were injured Sunday when their car rolled over on Interstate 95.

Myndie Davis, 31, was headed south when she apparently lost control of her car about 3:30 p.m., police said.

The car left the highway, hit a rock ledge and rolled over onto its roof. She was trapped in her vehicle and authorities needed the Jaws of Life to get her out.

Davis was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. The boy was taken to the hospital as a precaution because his injuries appeared superficial.

The cause remains under investigation.

Trooper justified in using deadly force, AG rules

Maine’s attorney general says it was reasonable for a state trooper to use deadly force in fatally shooting a man who had stabbed a girlfriend multiple times, killing her.

Police said 35-year-old April Haskell, who was 26 weeks pregnant, was fatally stabbed by Christopher Ouellette in October. Ouellette, 28, called police to report the stabbing and didn’t cooperate when they tried to find out about Haskell’s condition, barricaded himself inside and refused to surrender.

A report from Attorney General Janet Mills on Monday said Trooper Barry Meserve fired a shot from the parking lot when Ouellette appeared at a window. Ouellette died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Mills said Meserve reasonably believed it was necessary to use deadly force to try to save Haskell.
