LEWISTON – Argo Marketing Group Inc., which operates customer-service call centers, said it would hire 150 workers over the next year as it expands its business in Lewiston.

A company spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment on its current staffing level.

Argo’s expansion is part of a renovation of the former McCrory’s department store, which will serve as the corporate headquarters for the company.

The city of Lewiston will provide up to $150,000 in facade grants and loans, as well as up to $100,000 in life-safety grants and loans. The funds, which require a matching investment from Argo, are half grant, half zero-interest loans.

If approved by the city, Argo also could benefit from a 10-year tax increment financing agreement, or TIF. The agreement would return $147,000 in property taxes to Argo over 10 years. The city would retain $198,000 of taxes in its TIF account and use the funds to support other downtown redevelopment and infrastructure needs.
