SOUTH PORTLAND — A real estate foreclosure auction has been scheduled for the commercial property of David J. Deschaine, the roofing contractor well-known for his TV ads with the tag line “Keep out the rain. Call Dave Deschaine.”
The property includes gutter and vinyl siding inventory and a commercial building with offices on about .4 acres on Dunscombe Street. Keenan Auction Co. has scheduled a preview on Oct. 21 and plans to hold the auction Nov. 4.
The auction is part of the process of liquidating under Chapter 7 bankruptcy, Deschaine said.
Deschaine said he will continue to operate a scaled-down version of the business out of his home next door to the commercial property.
Deschaine said his financial problems stem from starting a 13-lot subdivision in Lewiston in 2005, along with a second business location, before the housing market crisis hit. He said he had used his commercial property in South Portland as collateral.
