BELFAST — The victim of a traffic crash in Prospect has been identified as a 16-year-old junior at a Bangor high school.

A spokesman for the Waldo County Sheriff's Department says a car driven by Owen Krause of Stockton Springs collided head-on with a dump truck at about 7 a.m. Wednesday. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The truck driver was treated and released from the hospital.

Krause was a student at John Bapst Memorial High School.

Witnesses told investigators that his car veered suddenly into the opposite lane.

The Bangor Daily News reports that the school is making grief counselors available for students Thursday.
