Belfast business owner Ruth Holmes was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Route 137 in Freedom Saturday morning.
State Police said Holmes, 64, was operating a pickup truck when it slid off the road and struck a tree at about 7 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Holmes’ granddaughter and sole passenger, Cassie Jackson 11 of Searsport, was treated at a hospital in Belfast for bumps and bruises.
The road was ice covered. Trooper Donald Webber said the truck flipped on its side and slid into the tree, crushing the roof. Both occupants were wearing seat belts.
Holmes' family operates Holmes Greenhouse and Florist Shop in Belfast.
