BOSTON — Lawyers for Boston mobster James "Whitey" Bulger are due in federal court to update a judge on the exchange of pre-trial evidence.
Bulger, the former leader of the notorious Winter Hill Gang, was also an FBI informant against the Mafia. The 83-year-old Bulger is awaiting trial for his alleged role in 19 killings.
His lawyers have complained for months that the large volume of documents in the case will make it difficult for them to be ready for Bulger's scheduled trial in March.
In a written status report filed this week, Bulger's lawyers said some of the documents are heavily redacted, making them "totally useless."
Prosecutors say they have gone well beyond what they are required to give the defense before trial.
The sides are due in court Friday afternoon.
