WISCASSET – CEI, which provides funding and business support to small and mid-sized businesses, may relocate its headquarters to Brunswick from Wiscasset.

CEI, Maine’s largest community-development finance institution, offered an option on the property on Federal Street that currently houses the Brunswick town office, police station and adjacent recreation center.

The option gives CEI time to work with architects, builders and staff to assess the viability of the relocation.

CEI would demolish the buildings and create a new corporate headquarters. The Brunswick police department will move to a new station later this year and the town offices are expected to relocate in 2014.

CEI will continue to maintain its satellite offices in Portland, Wiscasset, Bangor and eight other locations. CEI and its subsidiaries currently employ 90 staff statewide, about 50 of whom would work in the Brunswick location.
