The Boston Celtics have assigned forward Kris Joseph and center Fab Melo to the Maine Red Claws. The two are expected to be at practice Wednesday night at the Portland Expo.

Melo, a 7-foot center, was the 22nd pick of the 2012 NBA Draft out of Syracuse. Joseph, a 6-7 forward, was taken with the 51st pick in the recent draft, also out of Syracuse.

Melo appeared in all eight preseason games for the Celtics and averaged 1.3 rebounds in 5.9 minutes per game. He left Syracuse after his sophomore season where he averaged 7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 blocks.

Joseph made his NBA debut against the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 2 and recorded one rebound and one assist in three minutes of action. He had averaged 4.6 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10.8 minutes during the eight preseason games. During his senior season for Syracuse he averaged 13.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
