AUBURN  — City councilors in Auburn have voted to remove City Manager Glenn Aho from his post.

The 5-1 vote on Monday came after months of conflict between some members of the council and Aho, who was on the job for about three-and-a-half years after previously serving as town manager in Lincoln.

The council plans to meet in emergency session on Tuesday to name an interim manager.

Aho is not ruling out the possibility of returning to City Hall if the makeup of the council changes after the Nov. 8 election. He told the Sun Journal after Monday’s vote that his employment agreement requires the council to place him on 90 days leave before he’s officially terminated.

Aho earns $109,000 a year and his contract requires a severance package of six months of salary and benefits.
