Contest spotlights Maine's bad roads

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA — A transportation advocacy group is on the lookout for photos and videos of potholes, sinkholes and crumbling pavement as it seeks to document the worst roads in Maine.

The Maine Better Transportation Association is sponsoring the "Worst Road in Maine" contest to draw attention to the condition of the state's roads.

Executive Director Maria Fuentes says her organization is looking for videos and photos, as well of stories about flat tires and busted rims, before next week's deadline. She says several stretches of road – such as River Road in Windham, Routes 1 and 191 in Washington County and Route 115 in Gray – have received multiple nominations.

The winner gets a $250 gift certificate for car repair.

People can enter online on the MBTA's website at www.fixmaineroads.org or its Facebook page.
