DEP staffer heads to the oil spill

Another Maine Department of Environmental Protection staffer is heading to help battle the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Barbara Parker, director of the department’s response services, will relieve the on-scene coordinator at Florida’s emergency operations center in Tallahassee.

Six members of DEP’s hazardous materials response team are in Panama City, Fla., operating two oil skimmer barges while a DEP mapping expert is in Houma, La., helping to track the spill.
